Bacon Bloody Mary

Tony Chachere's Bloody MaryNeed a good jump start to your work week or hunt? Here’s a fantastic looking way to start that I just found out about. We love Tony Chachere’s spices which work with all kinds of hunt meats and dishes. This one is all about bacon (vitamin B).

TONY CHACHERE’S BACON BLOODY MARY

The Essentials:

1 cup of crushed ice
8 ozs Tony Chachere’s Bloody Mary Mix
1 1/2oz bacon flavored vodka
Juice of half a lemon
1 slice crispy Applewood Smoked Bacon
to rim glass Minced/Chopped Bacon
to taste Tony Chachere’s Original Creole Seasoning

Go for Gold:

We love to throw in everything but the kitchen sink (just to put it over the top), so we use long skewers for holding all the extra goodies. Along with the slice of bacon, you gotta have celery, stuffed olives, spicy green beans, cherry tomatoes, and baby spicy pickles….But it’s your Mary, so dress ‘er up as you like!

Hope you enjoy.

Accessorize your Utility Vehicle

New Holland RustlerHow would you customize a New Holland Rustler if you are going deer hunting? Or just hunting for anything (dove, turkey, rabbit)?

What accessories would be good to add to our camp machine? As you can see this is a pretty basic model and we’re thinking about adding to it. Gun mounts seem like a logical choice. We’ve got magnetic blocks for the outside which are great for standing your gun and having it lean against the vehicle when stopped.

Let us know what you would add or what you’ve found to be most useful for the woods. We’d love to hear from you.

Thanks.

Deer Farmers Association

North American Deer Farmers AssociationThanks to the Farm Bill I just learned about the North American Deer Farmers Association. Farm Bill? Yep. They sent me a release about their take on the legislation which is happy, happy, happy. I’m thinking of joining. I may not actually farm deer but work a property lease where we harvest them!

The North American Deer Farmers Association was founded in 1983 and is dedicated to the promotion of deer farming and ranching as an agricultural pursuit and serves its members through its educational programs and publications and by providing leadership in setting and maintaining quality standards. NADeFA represents the deer farming industry at all levels of government, and works closely with livestock producers and other organizations to promote ethical standards of conduct and husbandry in deer farming and to actively market standards for deer and deer products. NADeFA representatives are also available to media for expert testimony and information about deer farming and animal health issues, such as Chronic Wasting Disease, EHD and other topics.

For more information about NADeFA programs and membership, call 330.454.3944 or visit www.NADeFA.org.

CPHC Property Through the Glass

ZimmGlassThis past weekend I had another Crystal Pig Hunt Club woods experience. Unfortunately, I did not see any deer but the time in the woods is always wonderful. It was the last time for the 2013-14 deer season that I’ll be out on the CPHC but we’ve got plenty more woods time and hunting planned.

While I was hunting I carried along my new Glass from Google which is basically like a computer you wear on your face! I and learning how to use it for my business. In the photo my Glass is being recharged with a Monsanto Ground Breakers mobile charger. I have noticed that the Glass battery doesn’t last as long as I’m used to with my phone. That’s why these mobile chargers come in so handy.

Earlier in the day I shot a video clip with my Glass as a test. It worked out okay and I think I’ll be bringing it back to camp in the future. The clip is from the New Holland Rustler on the new and fresh grass growing roads we’ve been working on.

Venison Jerky Gifts

Venison JerkySuccessful hunting leads to successful cooking and that even includes freshly made jerky!

Using some of the venison from my deer this year I made 8 trays of jerky which I have packed in food saver bags and used for some Christmas gifts. I’m also bringing some to a south Florida family get together.

Making jerky is not difficult. In fact, it is easy. It does take some time though. I like to muscle out the meat and carefully trim it before slicing. Then it goes into spice and marinade before laying on the trays. Click on the photo to go to a website with some great venison jerky recipes.

Rustler Christmas Tree Gathering

New Holland Rustler Christmas TreeSince it is the holiday season and many people are getting ready for Christmas I thought you would enjoy seeing how nice and easy it is to cruise back in the woods, find the perfect tree, load it on your New Holland Rustler and head back to the house.

That’s what Paul did with his daughter Veronica.

Instead of having to try to get a truck to a tough place or dragging with a 4-wheeler these utility vehicles really are loaded with “utility.” A nice fresh tree, undamaged, is now decorating their homestead!

Rustler Delivers Firewood

You know that feeling. The ache in your back after you’ve not only cut the firewood, loaded up the firewood but after you’ve also had to unload it. Well, that doesn’t happen with a New Holland Rustler in camp. We learned that the hydraulic bed makes dropping off a load of firewood a breeze. This is just one of the many ways a utility vehicle like a Rustler make hunting camp much more enjoyable.

Of course you’ve already seen it picking up deer, crossing over a creek and of course it’s got tons of room to carry gear and hunters to where they need to go. You might think about getting yourself one. ‘Nuff said.

New Holland Rustler Makes Deer Pickup a Snap

New Holland Rustler Deer PickupI’ve been waiting to show you how easy a New Holland Rustler makes deer pickup. On my last two days of deer hunting I got a 4pt. buck. I was able to drag him to the firebreak around the property which is wide enough for 4-wheelers and utility vehicles. Then I walked back to where the Rustler was parked and with my nephew Joe and brother Paul we picked him up and got him hung up in a tree back at camp.

We had to cross a creek and put some boards over it thinking we might need them. But I didn’t stay on them and we still drove right across. This Rustler 4-seater has a long base which allows the front tires to get across a space like the creek and just keep pulling away since it’s also 4-wheel drive! I still did a lot of walking on this hunt but having a Rustler nearby is very handy.

If you’re interested in this beast of a machine you can find out more about them on the website or at your local New Holland dealer.

Cheers with a little Ocean Vodka

Ocean Breeze VodkaCheers from camp. We spent another couple days at the CPHC this past weekend and I was lucky to get a four point buck. While getting him processed into the cooler we took a time out.

The time out was to try something new that came to my attention recently and I was sent a sample of it – Organic Ocean Vodka. This Hawaiian product is made from organic sugar cane in Maui. To go along with it I came across some locally made bloody mary mix at a downtown Pensacola outdoor market before heading to camp – Vicki’s Wicked Potions “Bloody Brew” which is called “evilicious” and made with creole spices. Wow. Mmm good. Here’s where you can find Ocean Vodka near you.

You can expect that since we not only love to hunt but to eat and enjoy a good beverage that you’re going to be finding some ideas on these subjects as well.

Organic Ocean Vodka

For more than seven years, the Smith Family has worked diligently to bring their special Ocean Vodka from the Island of Maui to the far reaches of the world. The opening of a new craft distillery for public tours and tastings on their 80-acre organic farm is a dream come true for the family’s mission: to create a superior, organic, value-added agricultural product from Hawaii that supports the local economy, competes globally on quality, operates with environmental responsibility and raises awareness for oceanic conservation.

Ocean Vodka is the only spirit in the world distilled from organically farmed sugar cane, blended with deep ocean mineral water and powered by the sun. Certified USDA Organic and 100% gluten-free, Ocean Vodka uses a proprietary column distillation process to produce an ultra-clean, award-winning spirit. This pure refined spirit is blended with deep ocean mineral water, sourced from a depth of 3,000 feet off the Kona Coast of the Big Island, to make Ocean Vodka. Minerals Calcium, magnesium and potassium, which naturally occur in ocean water, give Ocean Vodka a unique, mineral-rich flavor found in no other vodka. These minerals create a pleasant, distinctive taste and enhance flavors when Ocean Vodka is mixed with fresh juices.

Meet The CPHC Team

Luke ZimmermanI’m going to be featuring some posts about the CPHC Team for you here starting with the Crystal Pig Boys. Let’s start with Luke Zimmerman. He’s a baseball player and seems to have a knack for seeing big bucks as you’ll read in the story I asked him to write so we could get to know him better. Here it is:

One afternoon in Pilot Grove Missouri, after lunch me, my brother and Dad went back out in the woods. They dropped me off at my ground blind and were walking to my brother’s stand. I was looking around and all of sudden I see this big 11-point buck looking right at my Dad and brother. I aimed and shot my .35 rifle, hit him in the spine but he was still moving around. So as fast as I could get my 8 year old self to do it, I unloaded my gun at that buck but missed every time besides my first shot. He finally fell and I had my first deer. Hunting’s a huge part of my family. Getting to spend time with them, doing something we all love helps bring us together.

That’s the story from Luke’s first deer hunt when at 8 yrs. old he killed the biggest rack on our property up to that time. I seem to remember Gary asking him, “Son, do you know what you’ve done?” The reply with these big eyes looking up was, “I don’t know.” LOL. Well, I think he’s got it figured out!
