First Deer in Camp

First Deer in CampIt’s the first day of the Georgia Crystal Pig Hunt Club deer hunt! It has been a good morning so far. I got the first camp meat, this nice doe. I saw another one and couple turkeys come down off their roost.

I got off my stand and drove over to the deer and loaded it on the New Holland Rustler. Thank you New Holland. Great machine! After putting this one in the cooler I’m getting ready to head on out to the afternoon hunt.

Last Prep Day

Bulldozer WorkIt’s the final set up day at the CPHC. Yesterday we had a bulldozer working all day running a firebreak all the way around the property. Kind of like a 4-wheeler highway so we can get around! It’s also a deer highway judging from the tracks we’ve seen.

We might get a little rain today but that would be okay to settle the dust down and put out so smoldering remains of the wood piles.

Tomorrow will be our first day on stands so I won’t be online much if any. I got my climber set up yesterday and can’t wait to sit in it.

2013 Rustler Hunt Photos

Hunt Camp MorningIt’s a morning view like this that really makes hunting camp memorable. We’ve got a beautiful work day started here at the CPHC.

Speaking of photos . . . here’s where I’m collecting photos from this year’s hunt. They include a very wet first work day and first camp out and work days. Now I’m adding photos as we prepare to hunt some deer and I’ll be updating when time allows.

Hills on Fire

Burning Wood PilesThe Crystal Pig Hunt club property recently had the trees harvested and the leftovers bulldozed into piles. This is the week to burn the piles and it made for quite a sight during the evening hours last night.

So the 2013 Rustler Hunt is commencing as we do final preparations for some serious woods hunting. We’re into the rut so our timing is perfect as the bucks are chasing the does! Many sightings already.

I’ll probably be doing most of my postings after the hunt is over next week but will try to update you when time allows over the next few days.

2013 – The Rustler Hunt

The 2013 deer hunt is officially titled, The Rustler Hunt. Why? Because we have the support of New Holland and their fantastic utility vehicle – the Rustler. I work with New Holland as one of my sponsors on AgWired.com, a ZimmComm New Media ag news website. We got to talking about some creative ways to create more online brand recognition and one thing led to another.

Crystal Pig Hunt Club 2013

Throughout our deer hunt which commences this Saturday you’ll see the Crystal Pig Hunt Club (CPHC) in action with a Rustler camp 4-seater! It is sweet and I can’t wait to show it to you.

From the Archives

Missouri Hunt 2010Before the official Crystal Pig Hunt Club was formed we hunted near Pilot Grove, MO for many years. This is a photo from our hunt in 2010, one of our last ones on that property. We are now located in central Georgia and have one addition to the group. More about that later when we meet the hunters.

Pictured (l-r) are Luke Zimmerman, Gary Cooper, Eli Zimmerman, yours truly Chuck Zimmerman and Paul Zimmerman. We’ve got a lot of memories from hunts that go back a lot of years. I’ll periodically pull from our archives some photos and stories for you.
